“The Government still has no plan how to help the 82,000 people who will still be waiting after the allocation of 10,000 new high-level Home Care Packages announced today”, said Policy Manager Paul Versteege.

“It is inappropriate for the Government to boast about record numbers of Home Care Packages released when 82,000 people approved for a high-level Home Care Package and their carers struggle on without a Package. The situation is dire. There’s a crisis.

“The Government needs to urgently present a plan which spells out how a total of 127,000 people waiting for a Home Care Package will get what they have been approved for within their lifetime.

“The Government needs a plan which transitions the aged care system from the $12.2 billion funded nursing home model to a model  where Home Care Packages and other in-home care are the default. Home Care Packages and other in-home care currently get $5.3 billion a year, including the funding announced today.

“People don’t want nursing homes, they want home care.”
