Health Promotion Service for Older People

Providing free health education sessions to groups of older people in the community

Trained and experienced presenters deliver free health information sessions to groups of older people

Sessions are presented in English and 10 community languages for those who might not have access to such vital information

The Health Promotion Service for Older People (HPSOP) was established in 1991 and is funded by NSW Health through the Western Sydney Local Health District. The goal of HPSOP is to keep people healthy and out of hospital.

HPSOP currently operates across NSW and provides health information sessions on eight health topics:

  • Arthritis
  • Diabetes Awareness
  • Falls Injury Prevention
  • Healthy Bones & Osteoporosis
  • Healthy Bladder & Bowel Habits
  • Medicine Management
  • Oral Health Care
  • StrokeSafe

HPSOP uses trained and experienced volunteer peer educators to present these information sessions to groups of older people. Our peer educators are from both English speaking as well as culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

During the COVID-19 pandemic face to face sessions were suspended. HPSOP is pleased to advise that bookings for these group sessions can again be made.

HPSOP continues to also offer these information sessions via Zoom. Please use the form on our Health Education Sessions page to register your interest in attending a Zoom session.

Group and Zoom sessions are presented in English and 10 community languages.

We hope to see you at one of our popular and frequently requested sessions soon.
